US satellites, Orions to help search for bodies of passengers of MV Princess of the Stars

The fate of about 700 passengers of the MV Princess of the Stars has become, for many here, the face of the Typhoon Frank tragedy. The President was told that over a hundred scuba divers – including eight from the US Navy – will try to bore into the ferry’s submerged superstructure Wednesday morning (Manila time).

US satellite imagery is also being used to find bodies believed to be trapped inside the ill-fated ship. The US may also deploy P-3 Orion anti-submarine patrol planes to help search for bodies that may still be floating in the sea.
